Overseer is an uncommon enemy first encountered in the Ruins of Rust level of The Forges episode.

Appearance

Overseer's appearance is akin to Forge Peon, with differences like it being bigger in size, having an emerald texture instead of fiery one, right hand lacking a weapon while left hand has a detachable giant harpoon connected to it via chain.

Behavior

The menacing nature of this enemy reveals itself the moment Champion steps in its field of view:

  1. Ranged. The Supervisor shoots its harpoon at the player's position to hook them and pull to its position in order to knock back. Doesn't deal damage.
  2. Melee. Underwatcher crouches and punches the player with its left hand.

Tactics

What makes this enemy dangerous apart from its telegraphed attack are high vantage points above bottomless pits and floor hazards which it will gladly push you in. Not only that, but Overseer is often present with a group of small and/or medium enemy types, purposefully placed there so you don't get time to deal with the thing itself first. Considering the speed of projectile, dodging a harpoon shouldn't be problematic, albeit uneasy if there is not enough space for movement. Alternatively, look for a cover. That will help you focus on other enemies, thus making the fight easier. If you get hooked either way make sure to not kill Overseer midway for a chance to get on the platform it stands on and safely jump down from it. Once again, Celestial Claw or Star of Torment are good choices against these types of monsters.

Facts & trivia

  • Overseer is the only large enemy whose ranged attack doesn't deal damage.
  • Overseer and Giant Protector are the only huge enemies that resemble their smaller counterparts without copying mechanics.
  • Overseer's harpoon can be seen on the wall behind the Guardian's throne in The Challenge level.
